Do you want a batch type or continuous system ? Wall-mart and other camping / sporting goods stores has a batch system Basically it is a bag that is clear on the sun side and black on the other fill it with H2O and place in a sunny location. We use a black 55 gallon barrel set up on a stand , fill it with H2O and wait (if filled early in the morning it will be hot that evening) (not scalding hot but hot enough for showers) a black or green water hose laid out in the yard will heat quite hot . (scalding hot )

Not quite enough info here to make a move on.... you mean an actual working one, right? Youd have to make it pretty authentic. like perhaps 1/ 4 the size ....maybe 1/ 10 would still workl but... youll have to copy all the real parts. Theres just no getting around that. Perhaps if you gave more info about what youre trying to do...it sounds a bit like a school project.

Get a large, flat box, or build one from wood or cardboard. Put that within another box with a few inches clearance around the sides, and pack the space between the boxes with insulation. Styrofoam packing peanuts would be ok, or loosely crumpled newspaper. It would be good to paint the inside of the inner box flat black. Then, you need a clear cover for the inner box. A large piece of acrylic (plexiglas) would be ideal. Regular glass would work, but be careful because the edges might be sharp, or it might break. You could even use saran wrap if you need to. The main idea is to cut down the air circulation. After doing this, you basically have a solar oven. Finally, get a roll of 1/ 4 " black vinyl tubing (the kind used in drip watering systems) from the hardware store. Run it into the box secure it in a coiled or serpentine pattern to expose it as much as possible to the sun. You can pour cool water into one end, and in good sun, the water should come out plenty hot.

It depends on the type you want. You could build a simple one that is nothing more than a black container you put in the sun.
